The objective is clear: get your team’s bocce balls as close as possible to the target ball, the pallino. Whether your team consists of one or six players, the game begins with a coin toss to determine who throws the pallino and the first bocce ball, while the opposing team chooses their ball color. The team furthest away from the pallino rolls a ball to close the gap or continues until they run out of balls. At the end of each round, the team with the most balls closest to the pallino scores points.

Only one team scores per round, earning one point for each ball closer to the pallino than the opponent’s balls. The scoring team then sets the stage for the next round by placing the pallino. The game continues until one team reaches 12 or 15 points, depending on time constraints.
